Last night six games were played in the NHL. The New York Islanders played the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Winnipeg Jets played the Carolina Hurricanes, the St. Louis Blues played the Detroit Red Wings, the Columbus Blue Jackets played Nashville Predators, the San Jose Sharks played the Edmonton Oilers, and the Ottawa Senators played the Los Angeles Kings. The Maple Leafs shutout the Islanders in a three, zero victory. Matthew Lombardi and Phil Kessel scored for Toronto. Matthew Lombardi scored in the first period and third. Phil Kessel scored in the third period also. Carolina squeaked out a win against the Jets. Jeff Skinner and Tim Brent scored in the first period for the Hurricanes. Kyle Wellwood scored the lone goal for the Jets in the second period. The game ended two, one in favor of the 'Canes. In the first period of the Detroit, Blues game Scott Nichol scored for St. Louis. This proved to be the Blues only goal the whole game. In the second period Pavel Datsyuk scored on a power play and Johan Franzen scored. In the third period Niklas Kronwall scored for the Red Wings the game ended three, one with Detroit coming out on top. In the first period of the Nashville, Columbus game Mike Fisher scored. Rick Nash scored for the Blue Jackets and Mike Fisher scored again for the Predators. In the third period Matt Halischuk and Patrice Bergeron scored for Nashville. The only game that went into extra time was the Edmonton, San Jose game. In the first period of the there was no goals and no penalties. In the second period Jordan Eberle scored for the Oilers. In the third period Logan Couture scored on a tip-in. At the end of regulation the score was tied one, one. Nobody scored in overtime so the game went into a shootout. In the shootout Jordan Eberle shot and Thomas Greiss. Devan Dubnyk stopped Michal Handzus's shot. For the Oilers Sam Gagner scored. Devan Dubnyk saved the shot by Dan Boyle. Anton Lander's shot was saved the Sharks goalie Thomas Greiss. The next two shots went in. Joe Pavelski scored for the Sharks and Taylor Hall scored for the Oilers. Logan Couture had to score to give the Sharks the win. Devan Dubnyk came up big and made the save for the Oilers win. Los Angeles blew out Ottawa in a four, one win. In the first period Willie Mitchell scored for the Kings. In the second period Kyle Clifford, Trevor Lewis, and Jack Johnson scored for LA. Daniel Alfredsson scored the only goal for the Ottawa Senators in the third period.
