Last night only three games were played in a not so busy night in the National Hockey League. The Washington Capitals played the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Boston Bruins played the Philadelphia Flyers, and the Colorado Avalanche played the Anaheim Ducks. The Washington, Pittsburgh game was going to be an intense rivalry game. The game lived up to everyone’s expectations as the game went into overtime. In regulation time Kris Letang, and James Neal, (twice) scored for the Penguins. Brooks Laich, Alexander Semin, and Alexander Ovechkin scored for Washington. The game ended in a three, three tie. In overtime Evgeni Malkin scored to win the game for the Pens. The Boston, Philadelphia game also promised to be an exciting one. It was a battle between the Broad street bullies and the big bad bruins. In the first period alone there were twelve penalties and four of them were five minute fighting majors. Also in the first period four people scored, Patrice Bergeron, Tyler Seguin, and Milan Lucic scored for the Bruins and Max Talbot scored for the Flyers. In the there was only one fight in the second period but still plenty of scoring, all from one person. Scott Hartnell scored not once, not twice, but three time in twenty minutes clenching a natural hat trick in just one period. The score after forty was three, four in favor of the Flyers. In the third period there was loads more of scoring from David Krejci, and Gregory Campbell from Boston, and Max Talbot again for the Flyers. At the end of regulation the score was five, five. In overtime there was no scoring so the game went into a shootout. Matt Read went first for the Flyers and missed. Then David Krejci went for the Bruins and scored. Claude Giroux went second for Philadelphia and scored. Tyler Seguin went second for Boston and scored, putting Wayne Simmonds of the Flyers in a must score position. Tim Thomas saved the shot from Wayne Simmonds winning the game for the Boston Bruins six, five over the Flyers. The last game of the night the Ducks faced off with the Avalanche. That game was another close one ended two, three with the Ducks coming out on top. Bobby Ryan scored the lone goal in the first period for the Ducks. Nobody scored in the second’s period. In the third Ryan Getzlaf and Bobby Ryan scored for the Ducks and Ryan O'Reilly and Milan Hejduk scored for the Avalanche.
