On the eighteenth of January only four games were played in the NHL. The Washington Capitals played the Montreal Canadians, the Buffalo Sabers played the Chicago Blackhawks, the Florida Panthers played the Colorado Avalanche, and the Phoenix Coyotes played the Anaheim Ducks. The Washington Capitals and Michal Neuvirth shutout the Montreal Canadians three to zero, with goals scored by Alexander Ovechkin, Mathieu Perreault, and Marcus Johansson. The Buffalo, Chicago game started out with Buffalo putting up the first goal of the game, but the first period ended two, one Chicago with goals scored by Andrew Shaw and Jonathon Toews. Again in the second period Buffalo scored first. Chicago answered with two goals by Marian Hossa, and Jimmy Hayes. The second period ended two, four in favor of the Blackhawks. In the third and final period of the game the Blackhawks scored another pair of goal by Dave Bolland, and Jonathon Toews. The game ended with Chicago beating Buffalo six to two. The Avalanche, Panthers game was a close one through three period in the first period Marcel Goc scored to put the Panthers up one, zero. In the second period Peter Mueller scored for Colorado and Stephan Weiss scored for the Avalanche to end the second period two, one Florida. In the Third period Peter Mueller and Paul Stastny scored for Colorado, and twenty seconds into the third period Tomas Kopecky scored for the Panthers. In the end of the third period the score was tied three, three and the game went in to sudden-death overtime. Three minutes and fifty-five second into overtime Ryan O'Reilly of the Colorado Avalanche scored for the win. Anaheim beat the Coyotes in a six, two victory. For the Ducks Nikls Hagman, Jason Blake, Matt Belesky, Corey Perry and Francios Beauchemin,(two goals) scored, and from the Coyotes Kyle Chipchura, and Daymond Langkow scored.
