NHL Headlines

Sidney Crosby, while in California seeing a spine and nerve specialist, found out that he had a neck injury in addition to his concussion. Sidney's rep proceeded to add that the neck injury was fully healed. The Pittsburgh Penguins are taking this as good news, as I would too. This neck injury will explain some of the pains they had before contributed to his concussion. Crosby was out on the ice before his team practiced earlier today. The last time he participated in a full practice was December 7th.

The Carolina Hurricanes ended trade rumors about their Alternate Captain, Tim Gleason yesterday by signing him to a new four-year, 16 million dollar contract extension. The Canes now have three players that are in the trade conversation. Joni Pitkanen, now hurt, is a good solid defenseman that can play an average of twenty-three minutes in a game. Tuomo Ruutu is a good finishing; gritty center that also has a great personality in the locker room. Bryan Allen the Canes biggest defenseman is also in the trade conversation with his contract ending at the end of this season. With the trade deadline coming up at the end of February most teams should expect a change.
